President's Message

Kim Yonda, NAVPLG Board President

While temperatures continued to rise this summer, so did the passion and spirit of volunteers and their Volunteer Administrators. I have always appreciated how NAVPLG continues to provide us with a solid foundation to exchange ideas, learn from others while compiling resources to utilize within our entities. May each of you continue to access the benefits of your NAVPLG membership and ignite the passion for making difference within your communities!

Our conference session in June at the Points of Light’s National Conference on Volunteering and Service Detroit was filled with numerous learning moments and an opportunity to discover what others are doing in their community to increase volunteerism, utilize volunteers during an emergency impacting a community, developing community partnerships, working with elected officials and much more!  We were also treated to an informative presentation, Professional and Personal Motivators for Volunteer Administrators by Christine Nardecchia. Our NAVPLG mixer provided a great opportunity to recharge and reconnect with colleagues.

Thank you to our committee who planned the conference session and mixer for us! I’m already looking forward to seeing everyone again in Seattle in June 2017. Each day holds new opportunities for us.  I encourage you to login and review the Membership section of our website www.navplg.org. There you will find many resources available to you that will continue to connect us with one another and broaden our horizons. When you are researching new components for your program, remember you have a strong membership of experts in NAVPLG able to share their professional thoughts.

In efforts to improve the membership experience for each of us, please follow us on social media (LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter).  Also, in that regard, and as something simple, when capturing a photo of one of your volunteer projects or events please email it to me with a brief statement about the experience and we can share your amazing efforts through our social media outlets. Together let’s highlight the spirit of volunteerism that is taking place in our communities! In addition if you have if you come across an article or item of interest that you think others should see, please email me.

Thank you for continuing to inspire others!

Communications Survey Results

Suzanne Robitaille

There was a 16.6% response rate for the Communication Survey I sent out in July. To the questions, "How did you hear about NAVPLG?" and "What did you hope to gain when you joined the organization?".

There were numerous answers. Of those who answered the question, "Has it met your goals?" all but two answered "yes". The survey results also indicated that email is the most popular way to communicate with members. Almost all said, they read the e-Newsletter. Of the two who do not, one did not find the format user-friendly and the other didn't have time.

There were lots of ideas for improving the website. The board and committee chairs will be using the survey data to help rethink/redesign both the e-newsletter and the website in an effort to make them more useful to you. If you have any additional suggestions, please send them to me as ideas come to you.
