Founded in 1997 as the National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government, NAVPLG is the only professional association dedicated to empowering leaders of volunteer programs across the public sector. In 2024, we proudly adopted our new name—the National Association of Volunteer Program Leaders in Government—to reflect our commitment to supporting volunteer program leaders at all levels of government, including local, state, tribal, and federal agencies. Since our inception, NAVPLG has remained grounded in its original mission, vision, and core pillars of leadership, education, advocacy, networking, and information exchange. Today, NAVPLG provides essential resources, training, and a collaborative network that drives impactful volunteer engagement and strengthens communities across the nation.

Our Logo

The NAVPLG logo features a modern, streamlined design that reflects the organization’s commitment to volunteerism in government. It incorporates bold, clean lines to convey professionalism and stability and a dynamic, interlocking design that symbolizes the collaborative nature of volunteer program leaders working together.

The NAVPLG logo reflects the organization's connection to government through the symbol of a rotunda. The dome is supported by five pillars representing NAVPLG’s mission to strengthen volunteer programs through leadership, education, advocacy, networking, and information exchange. As a resource and expert organization, the bottom arch supports the rotunda, providing foundational support to the pillars and connecting upward to the star, symbolizing professionalism, growth, and leadership. The gradient effect of the color palette suggests the star is illuminating the entire logo. The color gradient represents the diversity of NAVPLG members and the programs, agencies, and communities they serve.

This refreshed logo captures the spirit of NAVPLG’s mission and the vital role that volunteers and volunteer program leaders play in the public sector.

Our Previous Logos

NAVPLG’s logo has evolved to reflect the organization’s growth and the shift toward a more digitally connected world. The original logo (1997) and subsequent logo (2012), with its two-pronged plug graphic and the tagline "Plug into your peer network," symbolized NAVPLG’s foundational mission of connecting volunteer program leaders across the public sector. As our society has embraced a more digital, wireless approach to communication, NAVPLG has transitioned to a modern logo that speaks to this new era. The new design incorporates a bold, circular icon with colors that evoke inclusivity, energy, and unity. The iconic government rotunda with five columns and star represent NAVPLG’s ongoing commitment to supporting volunteer leaders in the public sector. While we’ve moved away from the physical plug, our mission to connect, empower, and inspire remains stronger than ever, now with a modern visual identity that aligns with today’s digital landscape.
