The Board of Directors of the National Association of Volunteer Program Leaders in Government (NAVPLG) serves as the governing body responsible for guiding the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. Comprised of dedicated professionals with expertise in volunteer program management, public administration, and community engagement, the Board works collaboratively to advance NAVPLG's mission of supporting, educating, and advocating for volunteer leaders in government settings. Board Members serve a two-year term with an opportunity to run for three consecutive terms.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Set long-term goals and provide direction for NAVPLG’s initiatives, ensuring alignment with the needs of members and the broader field of volunteer management in government.
Governance: Establish policies and procedures to maintain the organization’s integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Advocacy: Act as ambassadors for NAVPLG, promoting the value of volunteerism in government and fostering partnerships to advance the profession.
Membership Engagement: Support efforts to grow and engage NAVPLG’s membership by enhancing the value and relevance of programs, resources, and opportunities.
Financial Stewardship: Oversee the organization’s budget and ensure financial resources are managed responsibly to sustain and expand NAVPLG’s impact.

The Director of DEIA&B leads NAVPLG’s efforts to create a diverse, equitable, inclusive, accessible, and welcoming environment within the association and across the field of public service volunteer engagement. This role involves developing and implementing initiatives that foster a sense of belonging among members, ensuring all voices are valued and respected. The Director works to recruit and support members from diverse backgrounds, advocates for equitable practices, and integrates DEIA&B principles into NAVPLG’s programs, policies, and culture. By collaborating with board members and stakeholders, the Director of DEIA&B ensures that NAVPLG’s mission is advanced through inclusivity and a commitment to belonging for all members.
The Director of Supporting Memberships represents the interests and contributions of NAVPLG members in both the Supporting Individual and Supporting Organization membership categories. This role serves as a vital connection between NAVPLG and individuals or organizations that provide services, products, or expertise to enhance volunteer engagement in public service. The Director collaborates with these members to understand their needs, promote their involvement in NAVPLG activities, and identify opportunities for impactful partnerships. Additionally, the Director of Supporting Memberships advocates for the unique value these members bring to NAVPLG, fostering relationships that strengthen the association’s mission to advance volunteerism in public service sectors.
NACo Liaison
The NACo Liaison is a NAVPLG board member appointed to serve on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Board of Directors. This position ensures strong collaboration between NAVPLG and NACo by advocating for NAVPLG’s mission and goals at the national level. The NACo Liaison represents NAVPLG in discussions with NACo leadership, communicates updates to the NAVPLG Board, and identifies opportunities for alignment between the two organizations. By serving as a voice for NAVPLG within NACo, the Liaison strengthens the partnership and advances shared priorities that enhance volunteer engagement in public service.
NACo Representative
The NACo Representative is a paid staff member of the National Association of Counties (NACo) who acts as the primary point of contact between NACo and NAVPLG. This role facilitates communication, ensures collaboration on joint initiatives, and provides administrative and strategic support to the partnership. Since NAVPLG became a NACo affiliate in 1997, the NACo Representative has played a critical role in aligning NAVPLG’s initiatives with NACo’s broader goals, connecting NAVPLG members with NACo’s resources, and promoting NAVPLG’s contributions to public service. The Representative also provides insights into NACo’s priorities, ensuring NAVPLG remains an active and valued affiliate.
