Overview of the NAVPLG and AL!VE Strategic Partnership
Since the founding of the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE) in 2009, the National Association of Volunteer Program Leaders in Government (NAVPLG) and AL!VE have shared a strategic partnership rooted in their complementary missions. Both organizations are uniquely dedicated to advancing the volunteer engagement profession and are the only two national associations serving this purpose in the United States. Together, we have worked to empower volunteer leaders, foster professional growth, and promote the critical role of volunteerism in building strong communities.
As part of this ongoing partnership, NAVPLG is an association member of AL!VE (similar to NAVPLG’s group memberships), unlocking a range of benefits that extend to all NAVPLG members, regardless of their individual membership status with AL!VE. This collaboration ensures NAVPLG members gain access to resources, training, and opportunities that align with their professional goals and amplify their collective impact.
Through this enduring partnership, NAVPLG and AL!VE continue to strengthen the field of volunteer engagement and expand opportunities for professionals nationwide.
Below are a few resources and opportunities available to NAVPLG members.
Al!VE Academy
Similar to the NAVPLG Professional Development Series, the AL!VE Academy provides high-quality educational opportunities specifically designed to assist leaders in volunteer engagement in building and strengthening their leadership, management and technical skills. Throughout the year, AL!VE features a wide variety of topics, conducted by world class trainers and peers in the field. As new classes are scheduled, they will be added to the AL!VE calendar. Once complete, members can view on demand on the 'members only' portion of the site. AL!VE webinars are FREE for NAVPLG members; the general public is welcome to attend for $25 per webinar.

AL!VE Community of Practice: Volunteer Programs in County Government
NAVPLG members are encouraged to participate in the "Volunteer Programs in County Government" Community of Practice (COP), a collaborative COP between AL!VE and NAVPLG, hosted under AL!VE’s Communities of Practice program. At least one NAVPLG board member is present for every meeting. This COP provides a platform for professionals managing volunteer programs within government structures to share challenges, successes, and best practices. While AL!VE membership is required for participation in any other COP, NAVPLG members, regardless of AL!VE membership, are welcome to attend the Volunteer Programs in County Government COP. This partnership aims to enhance the effectiveness of volunteer engagement in local government by fostering a supportive community of practice.
2025 dates to be announced.
