What is in a name?

Since its founding in 1997, NAVPLG has been known as the National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government. In 2024, the Board of Directors and association members unanimously voted to rename the organization as the National Association of Volunteer Program Leaders in Government. This change reflects the association's growth over the years and the expanded membership criteria, which now includes professionals from all levels of government and recognized governmental organizations.

Note: NAVPLG was founded n 1997, for the first six years, we operated under a fiscal agent who was a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and tax exempt organization. In 2003, we separated and incorporated in the State of Texas, U.S.A. where one of our board members was located.
